There has been some interesting fiber M&A out west today. SDC Capital Partners has bought a majority stake in Fatbeam Holdings.
Fatbeam got its start specializing in e-Rate buildouts for the education sector in Washington and Idaho. Today they have expanded both in geography and customer focus to serve markets in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, Nevada, and Arizona. Their infrastructure now spans some 45K fiber miles in total
The company’s existing investors are staying on with a material stake. Meanwhile, the investment by SDC will give Fatbeam the necessary resources to continue that growth. They have mostly taken an organic route, but with a few small acquisitions over the years. I suspect their newfound resources will be applied in both directions over the next few years.
