Two IoT solutions in progress, one IP backbone expansion, and a submarine upgrade:
Toyota and Lexus vehicles are going to be getting some heavy duty connectivity from AT&T and KDDI. The two industry giants will be enabling 4G LTE connectivity for select new models of Toyota nad Lexus vehicles starting in the fall of 2019. That connectivity will power both new automotive solutions and a hotspot for passengers to use.
eX2 Technology has a new project up in the Midwest. The Iowa Deportment of Transportation has accepted their Truck Parking Information System, an IoT effort aimed at real time tracking of available truck parking along the states highways. We last saw the company helping with a metro dark fiber solution for the Atlanta BeltLine.
NTT has expanded its IP backbone to another key North American hub. They have opened a PoP in Toronto, entering Canada with connectivity options that include 100G ports and confirmed diversity. NTT’s backbone has long been one of the largest, and I hadn’t even realized it had not reached into the Canadian market directly until now.
And the Australia-Japan Cable has polished off a major upgrade. They have deployed Infinera’s ICE4 technology along their 12,700km fiber network. The result is triple the lit capacity and a 60% increase in potential capacity. AJC has used Infinera gear since 2014.
