Zayo Group has been investing in its longhaul fiber routes one at a time in the US for a while now, but now they’re taking that effort over to Europe. On Friday they announced plans to enhance the company’s longhaul fiber in northern England.
Zayo is extending and upgrading fiber ring in the northern UK. When complete, the 500km project will take advantage of both existing and newly built infrastructure. It will include two new unique routes between the east and west coasts, targeting the new submarine cables being built across the Irish and North Seas.
The project is expected to be complete before this time next year. By taking advantage of the shortest routes and modern fiber, Zayo will then be in position to help the webscale giants leverage the new transatlantic options bypassing London to the north.
