Network Roundup: GTT, Epsilon, NJFX, PacketFabric, Colt

Four interesting bits of network news from around the world worth noting this week:

GTT has won some US government business. The Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization (DITCO) which handles the contracts for DISA, has picked GTT’s transatlantic 100G wavelengths. GTT’s transatlantic infrastructure comes from its acquisition of Hibernia two winters ago – has it been that long already?

Epsilon and NJFX have teamed up on a nextgen transatlantic bypass route. Epsilon has activated the new network route at NJFX’s facility on the New Jersey shore, offering direct, SDN-powered connectivity between Europe’s bandwidth destinations and the data center megapolis Ashburn down in northern Virginia. NJFX has plans rewrite the playbook on southern routes as well, offering an alternative to Miami.

Fresh off its recent moves into Europe, PacketFabric is taking on Asia as well. They have teamed up with StrataNet for some secure, private intra-Asia capacity. The partnership extends PacketFabric’s network-as-a-service platform reach into some 10 Asian markets, while also helping StrataNet’s ambitions in 19 new US markets.

And Colt is taking its IQ Network deeper into central and Eastern Europe. They have plans to light 7,000km of new fiber into all the region’s major markets: Prague, Bratislava, Bucharest, Warsaw, Krakao, Brno, Sofia, Zagreb, Bucharest, and Belgrade. The upgrade will be online in Q1 of 2019, and will hook up some 10 new data centers along the way.
