France-IX has been busy to the south lately it seems. Today the company offered up an update on its progress in taking on the African network interconnection marketplace. Spoiler alert: traffic is up.
Ove the last twelve months, France-IX says the number of African networks joining the exchange has risen from 10 to 16. That has led to a rise in overall traffic of 90% at the company’s Paris and Marseille-based community. New participants include Dolphin Telecom, Ecoband, Guilab, Orange Senegal, Parabole Reunion, and Liquid Telecom.
Traffic across Africa has been growing rapidly lately, and France-IX has multiple peering partners in the region such as AFR-IX, Angola Cables, Sparkle, and BICS. They have also been helping with the development of IXPs regionally, with projects in Morocco, Senegal, and Congo.
