One metro fiber and four data center expansion items worth noting before you head out for the weekend.
Colt is putting more resources to work on its metro footprint in Ireland. They will be adding more than 150km of fiber in the city of Dublin, giving even greater depth to the Colt IQ Network. The company already hooks up 350 buildings and 23 data centers in Dublin, and expects strong economic growth to offer further opportunities going forward. The buildout started last month and will extend over several phases.
DC Blox has launched its latest data center, opening its doors down in Huntsville, Alabama. When fully built out, the new data center will deliver 46,000 square feet and 15MW of power. They are also working on a larger facility in nearby Birmingham, further extending a southeastern colo footprint that includes Atlanta and Chattanooga.
Digital Realty opened a global operations command center earlier this week. From the recently expanded location in Clifton, NJ the data center REIT will keep a closer eye on its uptime around the world. Digital Realty’s footprint spans some 198 data centers on four continents and recently found a way to expand down into South America too, so that’s no minor task.
And Equinix announced expansions in two less traveled bandwidth destinations this week. They will be opening a second data center in Sofia, Bulgaria in Q1 of next year. It’s a $19M investment that will add 350 cabinets with room for 1,100 more over time. And the Equinix Internet Exchange has been expanded into Bogotá, Colombia, expanding its presence in Latin America beyond the key market of São Paulo. That puts the IX in 34 metros worldwide now.
