If you were wondering what PCCW Global has been doing with the assets it bought from Console last autumn, wonder no more. Yesterday the Hong Kong-based carrier re-launched Console Connect as its very own software-defined interconnect platform and ecosystem.
The product announcement combines a Tier 1 global IP backbone with an interconnection ecosystem offering direct access to major cloud service providers. Available via one cross connect to the platform so far are AWS, Azure, and Alibaba, with more on the way. PCCW says it will have all the major cloud service providers on board by the third quarter of this year.
This probably is just the first step in PCCW’s plans for the Console Connect software platform, which had some interesting social networking features alongside the automation of connectivity. I doubt whatever they come up with will look much like the original company’s vision, which didn’t work out. But PCCW starts with an already-existing customer base and thus has a head start when it comes to scaling the platform.
