ServerFarm is taking aim at a new market on a new continent. The data center operator has acquired an 8MW facility over in the London metro area, giving them their first foothold in Europe.
ServerFarm’s new UK digs are in Feltham, which is in west London on the way to Slough and not far from Heathrow airport. It adds 120,000 square feet to the company’s portfolio. ServerFarm’s North American footprint includes data centers in Moses Lake, WA; Santa Clara, CA; Chicago, IL; Charlotte, NC; Oak Brook, IL; Toronto, ON, and Atlanta, GA. The Atlanta data center is a recent purchase from AMD, announced just three months ago.
It’s not the company’s first foray beyond North America. Three years or so ago ServerFarm teamed up with China’s 21Vianet and gained some international exposure that way. But this time is a bit more serious, and could be the first of several such investments should the opportunity arise. Amsterdam, Paris, and Frankfurt look out.
Details on the purchase were not available, but it does appear that this available former T-Systems location is not coincidentally at the same location.
