Zayo has picked up an interesting infrastructure contract over in Europe this week. An unnamed ‘global webscale company’ has tapped the company for a dark fiber solution in response to the ever-growing demands of traffic growth.
The deal is for 1,350km of intercity dark fiber on multiple strategic routes in the UK and France. That spans assets that derive from Zayo’s acquisitions of Viatel, AboveNet, and Geo. The customer is one with whom Zayo already has an extensive relationship, which could be one of several but the likeliest of which is probably Google.
Since its deal for Viatel, Zayo has been fairly quiet on the inorganic front in Europe. Yet eventually it seems likely that they look to expand their footprint into northern, southern, or eastern Europe somehow.
