With the CenturyLink deal looming ever closer, Level 3 has landed a significant contract in the government vertical. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has awarded the Broomfield-based network operator a 5-year, $79M contract.
Level 3 will be providing a laundry list of services under the contract, everything from wavelengths and managed dark fiber up through VPNs and managed security. They’ll be doing that via the 7,700 route miles of fiber network they have in the state, which hook up some 2,200 on-net buildings at present.
Of course, this is not Level 3’s first time at bat with Pennsylvania. When the company purchased Telcove a decade ago, along with it came an existing relationship with the state government and its agencies. This new award is an upgrade, especially in the area of security services where Level 3 has been expanding its capabilities steadily over the last several years.
