Yesterday there was some dark fiber news today from Sunesys, which these days is of course a division of Crown Castle. The fiber builder and operator has expanded its dark fiber infrastructure out into Chicago.
Sunesys has deployed diverse dark fiber connectivity into the QTS downtown Chicago facility. QTS just launched the first 317,000 square feet of its Chicago facility last July. The new fiber connects QTS’s facility to 350 E. Cermak, the carrier hotel that has long dominated the colo scene in Chicago. Sunesys has long had an extensive fiber network out in Chicago, and also hooks up QTS data centers over in its New Jersey footprint in Jersey City and Princeton.
At some point, Crown Castle will probably integrate and rebrand all the various fiber assets they have been acquiring, including Sunesys. Their most recent move was out in California with a deal for Wilcon, which actually just closed yesterday. But I suspect they aren’t anywhere near done yet.
