LightRiver Technologies has made an inorganic move today that will add to the company’s software depth. Their LightRiver Software division has acquired Unique Computer Services, expediting the company’s SDN DevOps capabilities.
UCS brings a transport provisioning and management system called netFLEX to the table, including an L0/L1/L2 Transport Network Controller which can be either on-premises or via a hosted cloud model. It fits well with LightRiver’s integrated optical expertise, expanding the company’s capabilities at the software level and including support for a wide range of optical vendors.
In fact, it fits so well that the two companies have already been working together for years, so there isn’t going to be lots of integration planning needed for this one.
Moving deeper into SDN and orchestration like this is just part of a longer term evolution that we are seeing across the networking world. The types of talent one needs is shifting, and M&A is certainly one of the ways to bring in-house what one needs to stay on top of things.
Financial details of the acquisition were not available.
