CityFibre’s appetite for new markets continues to grow, and the newest item on the menu is the Reading. The alternative UK metro provider has announced the city of Reading to be its next Gigabit City project.
Reading lies about 20 miles further west of London than Slough, the popular data center market. As usual, CityFibre will be entering the market with a partner that will take on the enterprise/retail side of things while CityFibre sticks to wholesale. In this case, that partner is Crowthorne-based service provider BtL. They’ll be starting with some 30km of metro fiber in Reading, with more to be added on over time.
CityFibre’s other recently announced project is up in Hull, where they are building out some 62km of fiber and working with Pure Broadband. They also have bigger projects underway in York, Peterborough, Coventry, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

Certainly exciting to see CityFibre Leased Line services becoming more readily available. Where CityFibre Ethernet isn’t viable there are FTTH/FTTP options of course.
