Not so puzzling, though a bit surprising. Data centers, dense fiber and spectrum providing for an enterprise and SMB verticals. Verizon can keep most of the business in existing form, and use several of the assets for additional purposes — fiber for small cells / fiber-to-the-cell deployments and spectrum for potential 5G and or wireless backhaul. I don’t like this word much, but a pretty decent set of ‘synergies’ on the face of it.

Carl Icahn must have incriminating pictures of Lowell McAdam.

I thought they were announcing they were looking to get out of the landline biz (like ATT) and move more into wireless. They just dont know what to do with themselves.

I had extensive experience with the old RBOC’s in the 90’s. The two most difficult to deal with were Nynex and US West. Verizon is stuck with the old Nynex boneheaded culture. So, who knows what they are up to? Probably just a favor to Icahn.
