According to reliable sources, Crown Castle has made another fiber acquisition, albeit a relatively small one. They have apparently acquired the dark fiber assets of Last Mile Solutions up in Massachusetts.
Last Mile Solutions owned several metro loops in Boston and Cambridge which it acquired from Forest City Network Solutions two years ago and then began marketing the assets toward carriers and others needing dedicated fiber along major routes in the city. It fits in quite well with the other fiber that Crown Castle has been out there acquiring over the past couple of years as a complement to its tower business: 24/7 MidAtlantic, Sunesys, and Access Fiber Group.
In particular, Sunesys, which now essentially operates as Crown Castle’s overall fiber division, has dark fiber up in the Boston metro area, but without much coverage in the city of Boston itself. Thus, Crown Castle seems to have filled in another hole or two while demonstrating its ongoing interest in furthering its fiber footprint. No doubt there are other little known dark fiber assets out there that would be a similar fit despite the years of consolidation we have seen.
