With 23 facilities now in service across the U.S., EdgeConneX is taking aim at a new market. They will be opening their first edge data center across the Atlantic in Amsterdam.
EdgeConneX is planning to replicate its success in the US in markets across western Europe. Beyond the Netherlands, they have plans to build out into Ireland, Italy, France, Austria, Germany, and the UK. There has been increasing activity at the internet’s edge, driven by the ongoing explosion in data needing delivery to consumers, and that phenomenon is definitely not market specific.
But there are of course different players at the edge in Europe. The content players overlap, but the last mile not so much, so EdgeConneX’s extensive relationship with cable operators and others in the US won’t help them there. New relationships will have had to be forged, which is why there aren’t many infrastructure providers that really manage to span continents successfully. EdgeConneX is looking to join that club.
