Since picking Infinera’s gear to power its network expansion last year, Windstream has been busy putting its plan into action. Today they gave an interesting update on the progress they’ve made and what’s on tap. Meanwhile, Infinera got some good news from Europe.
They have brought 12 new 100 markets on-net with 3,900 route miles of fiber now on the new systems so far this year. They have 7 more markets and another 5,600 route miles on tap for the remainder of the year. That will give them 100G service across 44 markets. With a modern backbone in place, Windstream expects to be a growing player in the wavelength business.
For its part, Infinera has succeeded in its M&A aim over in Europe. With 95.8% of Transmode shareholders agreeing, they have completed the offer, and expect to settle it all by August 20. The deal will be Infinera’s biggest inorganic move, giving the DWDM specialist a new dimension and a new pool of talent as well.
