The Open-IX initiative continues to gain momentum, and this week certified two more exchanges — one down in the southeast, and the other across the Atlantic.
Zayo earned its OIX-2 certification at its data center down in Atlanta. This is quite likely the first of what will probably be a long list given their extensive colo footprint and interconnection focus.
Meanwhile, the first European internet exchange has sought and received OIX-1 certification. After doing so in its nascent New York and Bay Area exchanges in the US, they apparently decided that the Open-IX initiative applies back home as well and did it in Amsterdam. Whether the other long-established European exchanges follow in their wake, we’ll just have to see.
