NTT Takes Aim at Germany

March 2nd, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

According to papers in Japan, NTT is about to duplicate its RagingWire acquisition on the other side of the Atlantic.  The Japanese-based telecommunications giant is said to be in talks to acquire Germany’s e-shelter for about $836M.

Lots of data center properties in Europe seem to be changing hands at the moment.  Interxion and Telecity are in the process of merging as well of course, as consolidation on the continent continues to gain steam.

If NTT follows through, they’ll be purchasing 3 data centers in Frankfurt, 2 in Munich, and one each in Hamburg, Berlin, Zurich, and Vienna.  NTT has been steadily expanding its continental European networking reach for the past several years, and this deal would give them a substantial data center presence on the other side of the English Channel to go with it.  Two and a half years ago they also acquired an 85% stake in Gyron Internet Limited over near London.

Might NTT have further inorganic ambitions in Europe?  There certainly are other possibilities available to them, on both the network and data center/cloud side of things.
