There are two other organic metro fiber expansion projects out there this week worth a quick look:
Out in the great plains, Unite Private Networks is expanding across the Missouri River from Omaha into Council Bluffs, Iowa. Construction is underway on new new fiber ring connecting the city to UPN’s Nebraska fiber footprint and covering the majority of Council Bluff’s central business district. The region has long been one of UPN’s biggest markets, with a varity of e-Rate deals augmented by the purchase of Zito Media’s regional fiber a couple years ago.
And in southern California, Wilcon is on the move again after last year’s purchase of Freedom Dark Fiber. They’re building out a new 43 route mile fiber ring from downtown Los Angeles around to El Segundo, passing through Burbank, Hollywood, and Santa Monica on the way. The buildout will also bring the company’s on-net data center count past 50 in southern California.
