The NBA Taps Zayo’s Fiber

September 10th, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Zayo picked up a high profile video transport contract today in the sports vertical. They are teaming up with the National Basketball Association for the transport of live broadcast and other video feeds for all NBA games in the upcoming 2014-2015 season.

Zayo’s fiber will be extended into the arenas they don’t already have on-net, upon which 100G wavelengths will supply the necessary raw bandwidth. The managed video system will carry multiple HD streams from each NBA arena to Secaucus, where the league’s office is located.

This sort of deal is what Zayo has surely been aiming for as it acquired and built its way to a national network footprint over the past 7 years. Has it really been that long now? Zayo made the first steps toward its long-awaited IPO in July, and has been relatively quiet since. Their fiscal Q4 and full year 2014 results should be coming out in the next few days.
