Two announcements from the European vendor this morning, the first being a substantial 100G deployment and the other an acquisition.
The pan-European network operator Colt is putting ADVA’s 100G Core technology to work in their background. They’re targeting UK enterprises with larger and larger pipes, and are also trialing ADVA’s 100G metro technology. Colt still seems like it will play a starring role in any European infrastructure M&A wave that might get started, though the sector doesn’t seem like it’s in a hurry.
And ADVA also made an inorganic move today, announcing a definitive agreement to buy Oscilloquartz SA from Swatch Group. Oscilloquartz offers network timing products which will fit well with ADVA’s own synchronization technology. Combined, they hope to better serve the ongoing wireless data boom, amongst other things.

Rob – I’m curious about your comment that Colt will play a big role in the eventual M & A in Europe. Do you still see them as a seller or are there whispers now that they will be a consolidator?
They seem to be more active lately in communicating their message.
Sleggo where has the the Colt message been more forceful than in times past?
They seem to file “white papers” every other day and they are all over twitter. Nothing earth shattering but they seem to be marketing more aggressively.
