Vancouver will get new data center option early next year as Cologix continues to expand its footprint. Building on its existing footprint and Meet-me room at 555 West Hastings, Cologix’s new network neutral colo space will be at 1050 West Pender Street in downtown Vancouver.
Cologix has been investing in additional space in its eastern Canadian markets of Toronto and Montreal over the past year. Vancouver is the #3 market up north, and doesn’t get nearly as much love when it comes to internet infrastructure. Cologix’s expansion will cover some 15,000 square feet, support 325 cabinets, and enjoy connectivity back to 555 West Hastings via a private fiber ring.
The Canadian infrastructure market has been getting steadily more interesting since the government relaxed foreign ownership limits. A fund operated by the Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris is buying Allstream, while Verizon has acknowledged an interest in buying Wind. The heightened interest is good for interconnection specialists with an existing presence in Canada.
