According to CEO Bjarni Thorvardarson via Capacity Magazine, Project Express is back in business with a new vendor: TE Subcom. Three months ago, Hibernia temporarily suspended its plans for a new lower latency transatlantic system in the wake of the Huawei security scare.
Now with TE Subcom apparently on board, the project can move forward again. No details were yet available on what the schedule might look like at this point, but hopefully Hibernia will be forthcoming with those over the next weeks and months.
The news comes as Hibernia celebrates its 10th anniversary. Has it really been a full decade since Columbia Ventures went out on a limb and bought 360Networks’ transatlantic cable system at the peak of the telecom nuclear winter? I guess it has.
