Spring must be the season for these things, as the past few weeks have seen more than a couple cross the wires. Today Windstream announced the receipt of a new federal contract from the GSA. The local services acquisition deal puts their voice and data solutions before government agencies across GSA Region 6, the Heartland region of Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas.
he five year deal represents the potential for multi-million dollar revenues on an annual basis, which I’m guessing means its another of these indefinite-quantity-indefinite-delivery contracts. The region corresponds to the former McLeodUSA fiber assets that Windstream acquired with the PAETEC deal, and goes with similar contracts in the Northeast, MidAtlantic, Southeast, Great Lakes, and California regions – many of which also came at least in part with the PAETEC deal.
Now that it’s been about five quarters since they closed the PAETEC deal, I wonder when Windstream will feel hungry for further consolidation. Earthlink, XO, and Integra still look like good fits to fill out their national network a bit.
