Zayo Closes FiberGate Purchase

September 4th, 2012 by · 1 Comment

Zayo Group (news, filings) finished off a very busy summer season with the closing of its purchase of FiberGate. The $117M deal adds 779 route miles of fiber (399 of them new) and 315 on-net buildings to Zayo’s network in the Washington DC and Baltimore region.

In just two months, Zayo’s presence in the DC region has gone from a relatively minor to massive.  The assets of FiberGate and AboveNet were very complementary.  Take a look at the map to the left, cribbed off of Zayo’s website, already showing the combined assets.

FiberGate was a dark fiber only provider, but Zayo will be boosting that up to its full portfolio lit services just as it has done elsewhere when buying dark fiber assets. According to the company, the integration should be swift and smooth.

Zayo’s fiscal fourth quarter should come out in the next week or so, perhaps with an update on its ongoing integration efforts.  They also have the recently announced USCarrier deal to finish up in a few months.
