Inteliquent Expands to Turkey, Eyes the Middle East

September 19th, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

This morning Inteliquent (NASDAQ:IQNT, news, filings) announced the establishment of a foothold in Turkey. They have established a Turkish subsidiary and a strategic alliance with Turckcell Superonline. Soon to follow will be a PoP in the Turkcell Superonline data center in Istanbul and the provision of IP transit and Ethernet services to the Turkish market.

Turkey is fast becoming a necessary destination for IP backbones, and we have seen a steady stream of expansions down from southeastern Europe by major network operators. And rather often it does seem to be Turkcell Superonline that is on the other end (e.g. Interoute, Tata).  I have been looking for their network map for some time now to add to my collection, and I am happy to say I have now found it and added it to both my European and Asia-Pacific-Australia map pages.

For Inteliquent, this looks like an foothold not just for Turkey but for the Middle East as a whole, a place they haven’t yet taken their network in a big way. Their EtherCloud offering specializes in enabling relationships with providers in hard to reach places, and there are plenty of those to the south and east of their deep European coverage.  Their own network map suggests further expansions in the works to Vilnius, Sao Paolo, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Sydney.
