The Ethernet vendor overture has poached a Ciena executive to take its helm going forward. Mike Aquino has joined the company as President and Chief Executive Officer, with current CEO and co-founder Jeff Reedy staying on as the Chief Strategy officer.
Aquino had previously held a number of executive positions at Ciena, including SVP Global Field Operations, and helped make the Nortel MEN integration happen. He is task will be to take Overture into the next phase of growth, meaning the one in which they’re already pretty big and complicated to manage.
The merger with Hatteras last year and Ceterus a couple years earlier positioned the company as a real power in Carrier Ethernet at just the right time. They’re still privately held, but I wonder if they won’t be looking to change that if another window in the IPO market opens up.
