Integra Telecom has continued its renewed interest in fiber investment over the last couple of quarters. They announced today that they have passed the 2,000 building threshold, adding 115 since January to hit 2013. And that reminds me, it’s time once again to update my metro fiber and on-net building statistics page.
I’ll try to post the full collection of updated data in a week. Any fiber operators out there with news to share that isn’t on your website or otherwise easily accessible, please do send it along. And if anyone sees a company missing from the list that really ought to be there, send that along too. Yes, I know the finding some data on the other cable MSOs would be optimal, but I’m not holding my breath.
Of course on-net building count isn’t by itself a predictor of all that much, as it overemphasizes smaller enterprise buildouts and under-emphasizes data centers and carrier hotels. However, it does give us an idea who is out there doing what with their fiber footprints, where such investments are being made and where they aren’t.
