Cotendo Renews and Expands Pact With Teliasonera

November 1st, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

High end CDN challenger Cotendo has renewed and expanded its arrangement with TeliaSonera AB (ETR:TLS, news, filings) International Carrier.  Cotendo has been using Teliasonera’s colo and IP services mostly in Europe until now, but will be providing services in North America as well.  It’s a natural fit, so it’s no surprise the two are happy to work with the status quo.  Cotendo needs an international carrier partner with substantial colocation in both the US and Europe with big pipes but who isn’t a competitor and has plenty of European mobile endpoints, while Teliasonera has been very active in the content vertical but less so on the managed, value added side of things.  One wonders if Teliasonera might not follow AT&T’s path and leverage Cotendo’s technology as well.

Cotendo has been rapidly expanding its customer base this year, now claiming to have added 350 already this year.  Over the summer they announced a series of new offerings aimed squarely at the mobile computing space, taking aim at the wildly popular iPad/iPhone/Android marketplace.  Despite all the hoopla, the potential bandwidth demands of all those devices have barely been scratched thus far.  It will take time for developers to put together a real killer app that truly takes advantage of the new platforms and changes the traffic equation.  But you can feel it coming.
