As everyone surely knows by now, Apple’s Steve Jobs passed away yesterday. While the event was not unexpected – pancreatic cancer does not leave many survivors – it certainly makes one stop and look back on the last three decades and realize just how much of it he influenced.
The web is full of personal remembrances of Jobs, but you won’t find one here. I must admit, I never caught the Apple bug, not back in the early days of the PC and not now with music, phones, and pads. But I can appreciate genius regardless, and he had it in quantity.
I think that perhaps one day they will find etched on some part deep down in the original iPhone that line from Rudyard Kipling:
“After me cometh a Builder;
tell him I, too, have known.”
And another will come, eventually. In the interim, good luck to Tim Cook.
