Global Crossing Adds EtherSphere Locations, Expands Global Partner Program

International network operator glbc announced two expansions yesterday.  First, the company is adding an additional 40 locations to its EtherSphere product line, which complements its MPLS IP VPN service with various flavors of layer 2 Ethernet including VPLS.  In North America and Europe, the additional Ethernet sites will be within key PoPs, while in China the expansion will go through the company’s partner CITIC Telecom CPC.

Meanwhile, Global Crossing is also expanding its Global Partner Program, adding its Connect Solutions integrated audio, web, and video conferencing portfolio to the mix.  The are also enhancing its uCommand portal to support network management for its EtherSphere and wavelength services.  The move helps to round out the company’s wholesale offerings.

Obviously the pending merger with Level 3 looms silently in the background.  Level 3 has no comparable conferencing solutions, so I’m sure that will be simply rolled into whatever global partner program the combined company assembles.  But both companies have aggressive Ethernet stances, so it will be interesting to watch how they combine the two when the time comes.
