McCaw, who created the first nationwide U.S. wireless network, went big into WiMAX when he founded Clearwire in 2003. Holding the second-largest block of U.S. spectrum behind Sprint, as well as some overseas, Clearwire plans a wireless broadband network capable of reaching 100 million people by 2008. But McCaw’s venture track record is mixed. Can money-losing Clearwire beat the big players?
