No, not the bar of soap, Dial Telecom – or more accurately, just the Slovakian division of Dial Telecom. GTS Central Europe is buying Dial’s Slovakian assets to bolster its presence in, you guessed it, Slovakia. The major asset is an extensive metro network in Bratislava. After the deal is completed, GTSCE’s Slovakian revenues should top €50M annually. For its part, Dial Telecom will use the proceeds of the sale to drive its main business in the Czech Republic.
All this may seem like a world and a half away from our own domestic M&A frenzy, but GTS Central Europe is owned by private equity led by familiar names such as Columbia Capital and M/C Venture Partners, and even the Bear himself who was on the company’s Board last I heard. I find it interesting that these guys are making metro fiber moves over in Slovakia right now as well as here in the USA. The Eastern European telecom landscape has been quite dynamic for several years now and looks set to stay that way.
